Vendors I Love: DJ DAVID MEDINA

I met David this past season on a super fun wedding in Brooklyn. He just exudes a feeling of confidence and experience. I knew we were in good hands with the ceremony music, so I was able to concentrate on the couple and their wedding party. I cannot wait to work with David again. Without further ado, I’m proud to introduce DJ DAVID MEDINA!

What was the path that led you to become a DJ?

I’ve always collected music ever since I was a child. Interestingly, I was always very open to music of all types. It didn’t matter to me if it was old or new. My mom & dad had some really great latin records at home growing up. I listened to them and to the radio like a fiend! I just loved music in all of its forms, diverse languages, and especially the way certain songs or genres made me feel.

I eventually focused my interests on Fine Art, focusing on sculpture and made my way to college in upstate NY. Once there I discovered they had a radio station. I got my own show freshman year and fell in love with entertaining people with music. After graduation, I returned home to NYC and began my Art career. I worked in glass, steel and bronze for many years. Eventually I started deejaying parties at little bars & lounges until I landed my first DJ residency, and started a very successful club career. Soon after, couples started asking me to DJ their wedding. That led me to start on the path of becoming a professional wedding DJ.

What excites you about weddings?

It’s wonderful to be such an integral part of a couples most important day in their lives (up to that point). To be able to make their friends and families partake in celebration & joy together is quite incredible. It’s also the actual act of deejaying and making people dance. There’s nothing like the rush of manipulating energy and crushing that dance floor. I also love receiving amazing reviews and emails from clients thanking me for the BEST night of their lives! It is extremely gratifying to know that what I’ve dedicated myself to do is to serve others using the most all-inclusive universal language…Music!

What do you look for in a couple?

It’s a certain vibe. On our initial meeting as they are gauging me to see if I’m a good fit for them, I am also seeing if they are my type of clients. I like working with couples that are low stress, open to music and show trust in me and my experience. Couples that are not difficult or limiting or that have a negative tone. I simply look for cool couples to work with because my job is a collaboration with them. It has to click.

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

A bride changed her wedding date to accommodate my schedule. She said it could not be done without me. Doesn’t get better than that!

What do you desire for your business?

To continue working with amazing couples, vendors and venues. To continue to grow and succeed doing what I love to do.

What are you grateful for?

I’m grateful for the opportunity to experience my life at this time. On a spiritual level it is a blessing to be alive and to be able to partake of all that life has to offer. So, I am grateful for my life, grateful to share it with my family, friends, clients and everyone that I come across. On my off time I enjoy hiking and taking vacations to nature filled locations. Usually places with tall trees, streams and wild life. Also, places with lots of sunshine, warm weather and beaches.

Aside from my love of music, I am also an avid movie and film collector. I get obsessed with directors and go down the rabbit hole researching previous works and influences!

Any recent cause for celebration?

I just surpassed receiving over 200 5-Star reviews on Weddingwire and I’m up to 195 5-Star reviews on The Knot! Not an easy task because regardless of how amazing you perform at a wedding, it’s still very difficult to get many clients to review you. So, I am honored and grateful for this as well.
