Vendors I Love: ALLISON DAVIS of DAVIS ROW

Allison-3.png

I met Allison Davis of DAVIS ROW a few years ago at a small wedding expo. Our paths continually cross, which is awesome because her positivity and enthusiasm are infectious. I have to fess up and say that I have yet to work with Allison, but gosh, I cannot wait for that to happen on an upcoming wedding ceremony. Last year, she introduced me to one of her couples and explained the way she works and refers potential creative partners. I thought the process was detailed and smart and I was truly taken aback by Allison's care and integrity. Folks, she's undoubtedly an amazing advocate to have. Without further ado, here's ALLISON DAVIS!

What was the path that led you to become a planner?

It was a long one! After I left the music industry, I did events at a consulting firm for a bit. I'd hear myself giving directions and answering questions and realized that I had skills I hadn't even known about. But I didn't know how much I loved weddings until I jumped into the high-volume world of NYC catering. It took about two weeks for me to decide that I wanted to serve couples and work on weddings. Every decision I made from that moment on was to get me a little closer to starting Davis Row. I can't imagine doing anything else!

What excites you about weddings?

The one-of-a-kind quality of each one. Weddings are very much a "you had to be there" type of experience, whether it's 5 people in the room or 500. Working with clients to create those moments, and then being able to watch them enjoy everything with their guests, is such a thrill and a real privilege.

What do you look for in a couple?

Even before this massive cultural shift began, Davis Row couples have always focused on their people - their friends and family. Our couples say their number one priority is for their guests to have a great time, and we love examining every detail along the way to maximize that. Making sure that guests don't have the sun in their eyes during the ceremony, choosing the comfiest possible chairs for dinner, creating enough space for everyone to dance...that matters. We love beautiful things, but that's not what people remember. Our couples hold the same belief.

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

Recently, while reviewing the overall design and flow of the wedding day with a couple, they stopped me to ask (jokingly!) if I had been reading their texts to each other. They hadn't told me exactly what they wanted, but I'd figured it out just from getting to know them and their style over our first months working together. That was awesome.

What do you desire for your business?

I want to continue to show up for couples who feel a connection to our values and our work. Whatever that may look like in the future!

What are you grateful for?

Right now it's the simple things that are really getting me through the days, like thinking of how fortunate I am to have food, shelter, and a lot of positive and supportive people in my world. I also feel really privileged and grateful that my family is healthy and we're all able to stay in touch via video chat.

Any recent cause for celebration?

I finally perfected french toast!! I texted a photo of my plate to a good 15 people.

That is exciting! Can I share that picture, too?

It's not Instagram worthy, but sure!
