Gratituesday 9.11.18 - Never Forget
Today there were a flurry of 9/11 posts on social media. Lots of never forget hashtags. A ton of photos of Lower Manhattan. Recounts of where folks were and how they found out about the planes hitting the twin towers and The Pentagon. What I'd like to "never forget" is the kindness, compassion and care in the days that followed. Tragedy does that. It stops time. Tragedy forces us to lift our heads up and consider those around us. It also encourages us to reach out and accomplish the impossible.
But what happens if we strive for that EVERY DAY? We live in a time of discourse and fear. Of greed and ignorance. What is ONE thing you can do to be kind or helpful to those around you. Is there a friend that could use a phone call? A stranger that needs a friendly gesture? Or a neighbor that can use an extra hand? To honor those that died this day 17 years ago, as well as those that gave their lives running into tragedy, I will go out of my comfort zone and offer kindness and compassion where I can. In the meantime, here are my weekly lists. Care to join me?
