Gratituesday 7.10.18 - Yoga Toes

Gratituesday-2.png

I am super proud of my yoga toes! Sometimes when I get a pedicure, the technician doesn't put those spongy spacers or the rolled up tissues around my toes. My toes have good separation between them so they're easy to polish - or at least the polish doesn't smudge because my toes aren't smooched up together. There are separators you can buy called 'yoga toes,' but I don't need those puppies!

When I first started taking yoga, my teacher had us expand our toes as we stood in Tadasana/Mountain Pose. We spread our toes away from each other just as we spread our fingers as we pushed our hands into the mat. It was a conscious thing. Now I don't even think about it! The act of expansion gives a larger base. If the toes are strong enough to receive weight, it's easier to stand. If you widen your fingers away from each other, it provides a larger base for arm balances.

That being said, I am also super proud of my yoga practice. Let me clarify, my yoga TEACHING practice. I don't do yoga as often as I'd like. In fact, I have a bit of ache from the 2 classes I taught yesterday. However, since yoga is the smallest part of my business practice, I didn't have much of an opportunity to teach. Now that I teach at least 2 classes a week at Primary, and tend to sub at least 1 more, I have created a teaching practice that's stronger than ever. I tailor my small classes to the requests of the students and I teach to the level in the room. I come in with a basic idea of where I'm going to go, but I may change course based on what the students need in the moment. It's a great skill to have. Now, to be able to offer that to myself!

In the meantime, here are my weekly lists. Lots of the same, a few new things! Feel free to join along.
