Vendors I Love: CODY RAISIG PHOTOGRAPHY

I have wanted to work with Cody Raisig for a while. And we finally did on a lovely wedding at the Prospect Park Picnic House just over a month ago. Cody is like a ninja - soft footed and ready for anything. I love that he equates weddings with high intensity sports. I've never quite thought of it that way. And my gosh, in some instances it's completely accurate! Without further ado, I am proud to introduce, CODY RAISIG.

What was the path that led you to become a photographer?

I started out as a motion picture cinematographer for a production company that documented extreme skiing. I traveled the world doing this for four winters: British Columbia, Switzerland, Japan, etc. This was my childhood dream, but I outgrew it by my mid-20s. I moved to NYC with the hopes of not having to travel as much for work, and I stumbled upon weddings during the summer of 2007, shooting several of my friends' weddings. It turns out that documenting weddings is as intense as documenting extreme skiing! No joke! You have to bring your A-game at all times!

What excites you about weddings?

It's intense! Everything matters: moments, emotions, action, still-lifes, scenics, portraiture, beauty. It really takes an enormously diverse set of photo skills to be able to photograph a wedding.

What do you look for in a couple?

I don't choose my couples - they choose me; I don't discriminate. On their wedding day, however, I look to capture their heightened emotional state, their beauty, their happiness and affection.

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

I have a close friend who's the Director of Photography for Under Armour athletic apparel, and his commercial photography is truly world class. When he refers me to his friends who are getting married, I think that's the most flattering compliment I can receive.

What do you desire for your business?

I want to continue to be valued by my clients, and I want to continue to be referred via word-of-mouth.

What are you grateful for?

I'm grateful for a lot. I'm grateful to be healthy in mind and body. I'm grateful that I survived a head-on car accident 12 years ago and had excellent doctors taking care of me. I'm grateful for the love and support my parents and sister have always given me. I'm grateful for the civil rights and security that I enjoy on a daily basis here in the USA.

Any recent cause for celebration?

I got my pilot's license two months ago. I trained for six months. It was hard work and scary as hell! But I did it. That was a huge effort.

Congratulations, Cody! Here's to flying high!
