Vendors I Love: BRI JOHNSON WEDDINGS

I met Bri a few months ago when one of her couples traveling from Germany was looking for an officiant. There was a lot of back and forth via email as we all discussed options and finalized a plan. Communication was clear and quick - and I knew that we would be able to take care of this amazing couple on their first trip to New York. When the wedding day finally arrived, we met up to welcome the couple. Bri was just so warm and thoughtful. But once the ceremony was over and photos began in earnest, she was on FIRE. She guided the couple and made them feel comfortable and special. Without further ado, I’m beyond excited to shine a little light onto BRI JOHNSON!

What was the path that led you to become a photographer?

Photography kept popping up in my childhood with my mom constantly taking photos and having tons of albums and a grandfather who was an avid hobbyist. I thought it was all cool and interesting so I started working at the local portrait studio at age 16 as an intern and loved it. I started photographing weddings at that time. That's also when I decided I wanted to pursue photography professionally and went to college for Photo Illustration.

What excites you about weddings?

The wedding day itself is always exciting (fast, challenging, lots of people and emotions) but it's the fact that I am creating imagery that families and couples can enjoy for generations really gets me excited. Life is short, these memories, especially wedding day memories go down in each family's history and it's incredible to me that I helped make that happen.

What do you look for in a couple?

Most of my couples are art aware and appreciate the artistry of photography. They are less focused on traditional smiling at the camera images and allow the images to be imperfect - creating motion blurred photos that feels like a memory. Memories are usually imperfect, a blurred mix of thoughts, and actions in order to deeply feel the emotion of the moment. I find that really helps create the trust we need to collaborate. It also helps inspire and push me to create the best imagery possible for their day.

What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?

I've always been moved by my clients who are not only grateful for the photography we created, but are grateful for me as a human to have been a part of their day. What do you desire for your business?I hope in business I continue to meet cool humans who are in love and together we create a portfolio of imagery that helps them remember their union for years to come.

What are you grateful for?

I'm grateful for a lot. My husband, my cat, my couples + clients, photography, and life in general.

Any recent cause for celebration?

Another year around the sun and a full year of exciting celebrations coming up! I’m so looking forward to a bunch of weddings over the next year in such different venues and locations. Intimate private residence weddings, winery weddings, NYC skyline weddings, beach weddings, weddings overlooking the Hudson River, Asbury Park weddings, intimate forest mansion weddings, and finally a NYE two year postponement celebration!!
